Ten years of system Damas

For the past 10 years Unicorn Systems has, with the cooperation of experts from ČEPS, been developing and operating the Damas information system which is successfully used by ČEPS, an operator of Czech electro-energetic transmission system.
10 years ago Unicorn Systems, in collaboration with experts from ČEPS, launched a development of an information system called Damas. It was a web application for daily purchase of ancillary services necessary for proper regulation and balancing of the transmission system of the Czech Republic. This development began in 2000 and in the same year the first version of Damas was put into operation.
At first, Damas only ensured the purchase of ancillary services. Along with the gradual liberalization of the energy market, the system has been expanded by other modules, such as the evaluation and settlement of imbalances in power supply and cross-border electricity trading. Over the years, the system has been technologically upgraded several times, while continuously adapted to the requirements of the customer and market participants. Currently, it stands as a comprehensive solution for the trading processes of European transmission system operators.
In 2009, under the brand name Damas Energy the third generation of the solution was deployed,bringing major technological and design changes. Thanks to its unique features, particularly in the area of configurability and flexibility, Damas has become a widely usable platform for many applications in the field of energy trading, utilities and others.
ČEPS has always been an active and innovative player in Europe. Thanks to this, Unicorn Systems was able to provide Damas to many other transmission system operators in many other European countries with the Damas system, Nowadays, Damas is also used by the Slovak SEPS, Italian Terna, Serbian EMS, Romanian Transelectrica and through subsidiaries the British National Grid, the French RTE and also the Dutch TenneT. Therefore, the Damas platform has greatly contributed to the fact that Unicorn Systems has been ranked among the leading European suppliers of information systems in the energy domain.
About Company ČEPS, a.s.
ČEPS operates in the territory of the Czech Republic as the sole operator of the transmission system (power lines 400kV and 220kV) based on the electricity transmission license, issued by the Energy Regulatory Office under the Energy Act. It maintains, restores and develops 39 substations with 67 transformers transferring electricity from the transmission grid to the distribution grids, 2968 km of power lines with 400kV voltage level and 1371 km with 220kV voltage level. ČEPS is integrated into European structures. Within the power system of the Czech Republic, ČEPS provides transmission services and balancing services between energy production and consumption, in real time (system services). ČEPS also manages cross-border transfers for export, import and transit of electricity.
