Unicorn Systems helps electricity under The English Channel

On 1st October 2009 Unicorn Systems launched a new information system for trading transmission capacities of electrical energy between Great Britain and France.
Information system Damas is Unicorn Systems key product in the energy area. The latest implementation provides complex services for allocation, administration and management of cross-border electrical energy transmissions between the British transmission system operator, National Grid (NG) and The French Réseau de Transport d’Electricité (RTE). The solution is fully outsourced. Following system development and implementation Unicorn Systems also delivered the necessary infrastructure and provides application hosting including user and operational support.
Commenting on the new system, Simon McVeigh, IFA Manager at National Grid, said: “These changes mean more choice and a one-stop shop for interconnector users, giving more opportunity to trade across the link much closer to real time, to nominate flows and allow more efficient use of interconnector capacity. It also means more transparency for users and other interested followers alike. We and RTE have sought not just to ensure compliance with EU Congestion Management Guidelines, but to go that one step further.”
On behalf of NG and RTE, Unicorn Systems will administer the auctions and operate a round-the-clock customer helpdesk for electricity traders in France and Great Britain. Telephon and e-mail support is guaranteed 24/7, at peak times as many as 100 requirements are processed per day.
The Damas information system was developed in 2003 for The Czech transmission system operator, ČEPS. As well as the connection between France and Great Britain, it is already being used by transmission system operators in Slovakia (SEPS), Italy (TERNA) and Serbia (EMS) and is being implemented in Romania (Transelectrica). Unicorn Systems continually works on enhancements to ensure further extensibility.
